Here we come with another teeny-tiny blog. Now that you have returned to this page, you are clearly interested to know more about the brain. First things first, Brain science is called neuroscience. Does it only have one subject called the brain? Nah…it is also a study of the spinal cord, cranial nerves, spinal nerves, hell lot of neural connections, pathways, and tracks! Nobody said it’s easy. Most of us know that head is where your brain is. The Head is defined as the portion above your neck. Head as a part has subparts like face, special sensory organs, hair, and scalp. Hold on to this scalp…..you know how this word came to existence? Brace yourself; it’s actually an acronym for Skin-Connective tissue-Aponeurotica-Loose connective tissue-Pericranium! These are the layers above your skull. Skull like a helmet is a bony structure, having the cushioning of meninges and your brain is floating in it. You heard it right it’s floating. Do you want to know few fun facts about your skull? The skull or the cranium can withstand pressure about 1,100 pounds or around 500kgs….few objects that weigh around 500kgs are grand piano, mini caravan, gray whale baby, adult horse…adult human head weighs around 5kgs (out of which 1.3 kg is the brain’s weight) …do some thinking…this light-headed object (pun intended) is strong beyond logic. Out of all the 22 skull bones, mandible is the strongest bone…you use this bone for chewing and biting. The one in the blue color is the mandible. Us being omnivores (both veg and non-veg eaters) it is pretty logical to have strong jaw bone.
