Welcome to the 3rd week of brain blogs. Did you think about the skull since the last time you learned about it? If you haven’t then you should because information gathering is not enough. You should process and consolidate it. That’s how your brain functions. Remember the movie “Karthik calling Karthik”? If you only focus on gathering the info you might end up psycho! (For those who don’t know: Karthik's brain is grabbing all the information it can get, both consciously and subconsciously and, uses it against him as his alter ego). Now now…we all have agreed to think about previously discussed topics, feel free to ask crazy queries.
By now you must have got an idea of how important and powerful your brain is. This brain has various information processing units. Each unit or lobe of the brain has got functioning systems and numerous employees. Let’s get familiar with these departments of the brain. The one on the front is ‘the frontal lobe’. Only privileged species like us humans and other primates have this one. The one on the apex, beside frontal, is ‘the parietal lobe’. On the later sides where ears are present is ‘the temporal lobe’ and one at the back is ‘the occipital lobe’. Even though each lobe has a designated role and systems in place, they are all interconnected. The employees in these units are “Neurons”. Pay attention peeps…this word “Neuron” is very important. They run the company. Who run the world....girls and neurons! They have small-small unions amongst them called ‘nuclei’. Your sensory departments like eyes, nose, skin, etc collect the surrounding information and send copies of files to these unions. They decide on what to do with the information. We’ll acquire more info about it in coming time.
Another interesting feature of the brain is its surface. Have you noticed it's not completely smooth? Your brain actually has wrinkles…like an oldie. But why? Two weird terms are coming in guys…..1. Sulci and 2.Gyri. sooo weird…I know…think of them as two twins…sulcus(singular) is a groove and gyrus is a bump. These groovy and bumpy folds make more space for employees to sit and work…More neurons= more functions= more smart you are. Larger the surface area, more information you can store. Fun fact- On an average, women are found to have more folds on the brain so, before you call a woman dumb...think twice! On the contrary, men are said to have more number of neurons because they have big brain mass… girls, they are listening too! Thus, it all depends on you, irrespective of your sex….how do you want to run your company…I’ll suggest use your brain as much as you can. I hope you have grown few sulci-gyri today! See you next week.
Hey
you made it simple & easy to digest.. just like a quick n fast food.
Neuroscience.. is it a hardware of brain ?? .. & may be psychology a software ??
.. may be your forth coming blogs will reveal the same..
Reading so far was fun.. great going.. looking for war to all updates on neurosciences..
😊
Hey.. Thank you for the information.. Keep growing our sulci and gyri!😄
You always have good humor in your blogs. So much fun and easy to read! PS Loved the Karthik Calling Karthik reference😄
